Introduction of Prof. Leo KoGuan
Prof. Leo KoGuan is the Founder and Chairman of SHI International, a global technology outsourcing company in software and PC procurement, data storage and cloud computing services based in the United States. He founded the company in 1989, and now it has annual sales of exceeding US $3 billion a year. He obtained his master degree in International Affairs (MIA) from Columbia University and Juris Doctor degree (JD) from New York Law School. He is Honorary Trustee and Visiting Professor of Law at Tsinghua University, Honorary Trustee of Peking University, Trustee of Fudan University, Honorary Trustee of Shanghai Jiaotong University, and the Global Trustee Emeritus of Asia Society based in New York.
Since he was four years old, Prof. Leo KoGuan has sought to understand the meaning of life. He believes that the meaning of life is being an active participant in life itself. Participation creates life’s meaning, brings fulfillment, and ultimately, he believes, living is about giving and sharing. The more one gives and shares within his own means, the more satisfaction and meaning he will derive from his life. He is fighting against nihilism that advocates meaningless life within meaningless universe, instead he promotes meaningful and hopeful life within our meaningful universe.
With these reasons in mind, Prof. Leo KoGuan founded the Leo KoGuan Foundation, which has a mission to promote a scientific outlook on creating and distributing things of desire such as wealth, love, power and justice, more fairly in a global harmonious society. The foundation promotes the study and application of the Yellow Emperor’s thought, namely his principle of “giving first and taking later.” Till today, the foundation has donated funds to build law school facilities at major universities in China, create and distribute scholarships for outstanding as well as needy students and best teachers awards to teachers selected by students themselves, to promote better teaching experiences for both students and teachers, and establish research centers that promote the study of rule of law and principle around the world with a scientific and cross-disciplinary approach.
Course Introduction
The course primarily focuses on the Yellow Emperor Thought that promotes the rule of law and principle; that helps each individual to achieve his or her dreams and aspiration; and that makes sure each is literate, healthy and wealthy; and that since his reign, these ideas have been present in Chinese society. Firstly the course synthesizes Chinese thoughts from the Yellow Emperor to contemporary theories. Then the course synthesizes Western scientific concepts into everything is information. Finally, the course forges and combines the Chinese thought synthesis with the Western scientific concept, “bit is it”, to form the kernel of the Yellow Emperor Hypothesis: The Anti-Entropic Operating System of the Scientific Outlook of Rule of Law and Principle.
